Here again is the explanation on the BFN insurance. This policy does not
take the place of the boater's liability insurance. It is strictly to
protect the federation member against third party lawsuits. That's why
it's important that we somehow ensure that our participants have the proper
insurance. I know it's a pain but it will protect us in the long run.

Subject: Insurance Question.
Don,
Good Morning! Question on insurance. Came up yesterday,
If a Wisconsin B.A.S.S. Federation club has an open tournament, is everyone
who participates covered under our insurance or just federation members?
Thank You Sir,
Jeff

Answer from Don Corkran:
Here's another one of those questions
that indicates a lack of understanding of what insurance coverage we have
for the BFN. Please let me explain again - we have 2 policies. The first
is an Accidental Death & Dismemberment policy that covers all MEMBERS
only to and from and during an event - it's for $10,000. The second is
a General Liability Policy that covers all clubs and state B.F.N.'s against
3rd party lawsuits. It never covers a member except as it pertains to
his/her involvement as an officer of the organization. So it never covers
a boater, for instance, and that is the reason you must make sure that
all of the boaters in your events have watercraft liability insurance.
This GL policy is like any company or organization would have to protect
them if their actions cause damage - it is a $1 million policy.
I guess it's time for me to write
my column on this subject once again for BASS Times.
